Say hello to my newest addition, Crooked Pecker :) So I swear I wasn't going with the intent of adding anymore to my flock of 91...yes 91!!! Well only until Saturday at which time 57 of them will be neatly wrapped and ready for pickup...stay tuned. So anyways, I have this really good friend that has a chicken problem, well maybe more like an addiction. She started with a couple in this beautiful coup complete with curtains, a chandelier, and a portrait of Clucking Tatum. I giggled and laughed as she fed her chickens homemade herb concoctions and lounged by the pool with them, as my chickens are scratching around in horse shit...hey, it's organic right? So here it is 6 months later and 36 chickens later I find myself harboring her addiction. As I'm going to drop her off a baby royal palm turkey because lets face it, chickens are just a gateway animal, I see a sign at the local feed store "Turkeys Are Here" and I think she would probably like a friend for her new turkey. So like a good friend I stop, but unfortunately they were sold out but that's when I spotted him... lil' ol crooked pecker. The guy laughed when I said I wanted him and told me this one is on the house. So welcome home Crooked Pecker your one of the my lil' flockers now.

Scissor beak is the technical term. It's more than likely genetics and nothing you can do to reverse or correct it. But on the other hand it's also not terminal. He will need to be fed in an extra deep bowl so he can scoop the food since his "pinch" mechanism is gone. I will also need to hone his beak since he will not be able to grind on the rocks like "normal" chickens do to keep thier beak lengths regulated. But with a little extra attention this little dude should live a healthy life with all the other cocks on the farm :)
